Traditional Fire Cider

This is an amazing immune boosting, cold zapping tonic! A small shot glass daily serves as an excellent tonic for your immune system. You may also take a few more teaspoons for a hangover cure or if you feel a cold coming on. Original recipe by Rosemary Gladstar.

Fire Cider Recipe:

2 – 4 inch fresh horseradish roots

1 or more fresh chopped onions

12 cloves or more chopped garlic

4 inches more grated ginger root

1 Tablespoon powdered Tumeric (I couldn’t find any fresh in Montana at the time I made my tonic).

1/4 cup dried thyme

1 lemon sliced

2 small sliced oranges

2 teaspoons cinnamon

2-5 Chopped fresh or dried peppers, should be hot, but not so hot you can’t tolerate it. Better to make it a little milder than to hot; you can always add more pepper later if necessary.

Optional ingredients: Echinacea, goldenseal, cinnamon, schizandra, lemon, orange, rosemary, peppercorns, elder berries, astragalus, oregano, ginseng, ginkgo, cat’s claw, reishi, rhodiola, tulsi, licorice, cordyceps, ashwagandha, chamomile, Japanese honeysuckle, bee balm, calendula, clove, etc…… whatever your body loves!

Place herbs in a half-gallon canning jar and cover with enough raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar to cover the herbs by at least three to four inches. Cover tightly with a tight fitting lid.

Place jar in a warm place and let for three to four weeks. Best to shake every day to help in the maceration process.

After three to four weeks, strain out the herbs, and reserve the liquid.

Add honey ‘to taste’. Warm the honey first so it mixes in well. “To Taste’ means your Fire Cider should taste hot, spicy, and sweet. “A little bit of honey helps the medicine go down……”

Rebottle and enjoy! Fire Cider will keep for several months unrefrigerated if stored in a cool pantry. But it’s better to store in the refrigerator if you’ve room.

Fresh horseradish is known to be effective against the flu and common cold, tonsilitis, respiratory disorders, urinary tract infections, and pathenogenic fungus.

Ginger is used to treat arthritis, muscle pain, upset stomach (motion and morning sickness and general nausea), gas, upper respiratory tract infections, and cough.

Onions are used to boost cardiovascular health, bone and connective tissue benefits, and as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Garlic is used to treat high blood pressure, high cholesterol, coronary heart disease, heart attack, atherosclerosis, asthma, building the immune system, help level blood sugar, and is used topically to treat fungal infections.

Hot peppers boost your metabolism, and offer headache, sinus, and arthritis relief as well as releasing endorphins.

Oranges are great for heart health, as part of a best-case-scenario-anti-cancer-diet, fighting cholesterol, to help in weight loss, and to break up or prevent kidney stones.
Lemons are known to aid in digestion, alleviate Meniere’s Disease, kidney stones, and ringing of the ears, cure scurvy (chronic lack of Vitamin C), treat colds and flu, improve the function of blood vessels, and reduce inflammation and retention of water.

Turmeric is pretty much the be-all and end-all of health foods. It’s known to delay liver damage, reduce carcinogenic compounds in other foods, make cancer cells more vulnerable to chemo and radiation, inhibit the growth of malignant melanoma and breast cancer, alleviate arthritis symptoms and skin conditions. Heck, maybe I should let the experts describe what the main compound in turmeric -cucurmin- does. Advanced Experimental Medical Biology in 2007 states that, “Curcumin has been shown to exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer activities and thus has a potential against various malignant diseases, diabetes, allergies, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease and other chronic illnesses.”

Thyme contains some of the same components as oregano and is especially high in thymol, which gives thyme its antimicrobial properties against bacteria and fungi, which is why it’s a first rate immune boosting food. Also an antioxidant, thyme has been shown to prevent oxidative damage to DNA in human lymphocytes. In other words, it protects genes. It also contains quercetin, found in onions, which inhibits histamine.

Cinnamon helps prevent infection and may stimulate immune activity, making it a welcome and tasty addition to this fire cider recipe. There’s considerable research indicating that cinnamon can prevent clumping of blood platelets by blocking the release of inflammatory fatty acids from cell membranes. It also inhibits the formation of other inflammatory substances. It also helps regulate blood sugar (a factor in inflammation), has antioxidant activity, and may reduce pain.

Raw apple cider vinegar (not plain old cider vinegar!) is known to be a good source of acetic and ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), mineral salts, amino acids, and other key components of good nutrition, but it is also a well-loved folk remedy thought to ease digestion, fight obesity and diabetes, wash toxins from the body, kill lice, and reverse aging. How cool is that?!?!

Raw honey (locally produced) is a fantastic, all-natural fighter of seasonal allergies. Because bees collect pollen from flowers in your area and then convert it to honey to feed their hives, eating raw, local honey is like a tasty allergy shot. It’s also full of vitamins and minerals, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and makes a great, non-narcotic cough suppressant and throat soother.

I hope you all make your own batch of Traditional Fire Cider using local produce for your winter wellness.

“Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has” ~ Margaret Mead.

Blessings,

Michelle

Simple Sweet Smoothie

Spring is just around the corner (I think – its still snowing here in Montana).
This is a great time of year to cleanse your liver. A congested liver can affect hormone production and create imbalances in the body including unwanted weight gain. If you are not feeling well, have allergies, fatigue, anxiety, depression, menstrual irregularities, joint pain, rashes/acne, constipation, irregular bowels, frequent colds, palpitations or insomnia, cleansing your liver may be the ticket towards better health.
A great way to cleanse your liver is to participate in a juice cleanse. Or you can do a three day raw food cleanse.
beet smoothie
Here is a great energy boosting smoothie for a great way to start your liver cleanse as well as a great smoothie for pre-work out nourishment.

Simply Sweet Smoothie

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 thai coconut
  • 1 cup beet juice or (1/2 beet blended)
  • 2 Tablespoons Pure Synergy or Vitamineral Green
  • 1 teaspoon bee pollen
Put all ingredients in a blender and voila! Superb!
Simple Sweet Smoothie
Beets are a blood tonic and are good for anemia, the heart and circulation. They purify the blood, alleviate constipation, aid the liver, and promote menstruation. Beets reduce vata and kapha.
A starchy vegetable, beet roots are high in natural sugar. The greens have notable amounts of calcium, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus; they also contain vitamins A, B-complex, and C.

Health Benefits of Beets:

  • Boosts Energy
  • Rich in nutrients
  • Blood purifier
  • Immune system booster
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Stimulates liver function
  • Natural colon cleanser
  • Supports capillaries
  • Prevents macular degeneration
  • Prevents cataracts
  • Natures viagra
  • Creates a sense of well being
  • Used as a stomach acid tester
  • Contains pectin polysaccharides for digestive tract health
  • Lessens tumor cell growth & contains betacyanins which counteract cancer
  • Source of anthycyanins, carotenoids & lutein/zeazanthin which helps prevent or even cure macular degeneration and other eye related issues.
  • Reduces cholesterol & triglycerides

Beets are natures viagra? Seriously? Yes, seriously! Beets were used by both the ancient Greeks and Romans both medicinally as an aphrodisiac and as a culinary herb. Medicinally, beets contain high amounts of boron, which is directly related to the production of human sex hormones. In addition the natural nitrates that would improve overall performance.

Go ahead! Give this beet smoothie a try! For great info on energizing beet juice, click here!

Why is it that one day eating a beet turns your urine pink, whereas another day and another beet produce magenta stool? According to nutritionist Jeffrey Bland, PhD., pink urine may indicate an iron deficiency while magenta stool indicates adequate iron. What color is your poop?
Inspiration has unlimited power,
Michelle
The beet is the most intense of vegetables. The radish, admittedly, is more feverish, but the fire of the radish is a cold fire, the fire of discontent, not of passion. Tomatoes are lusty enough, yet there runs through tomatoes an undercurrent of frivolity. Beets are deadly serious.

7 Day Juice Cleanse

This is an extension of the 3-Day Juice Cleanse and the 5-Day Juice Cleanse that was posted earlier this month. Cleansing is a great way to kickstart your way to better health! Give your body a break from caffeine, sugar, wheat, dairy, and alcohol so that you may establish new, healthier habits, renew your energy and detox your body with this invigorating week long cleanse!

Make sure to use fresh organic ingredients for your juice, to ensure that your juices contain no synthetic ingredients. This supplies the body with a concentrated batch of natural vitamins and minerals in their natural form. With the extra nutrition, your body’s performance will improve and more energy will be available. With all of this extra energy many people report wanting to exercise, which leads to clearer thinking, healthier emotional states & weight control (you may even sleep better too). As dis-ease thrives in bodies which are filled with toxins, bacteria and carcinogens, most of which are found in un-healthy food. To prevent dis-ease and effectively defend itself, the body requires a wide assortment of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. When you feel healthy, its natural to get more out of life. That is why I created this simple 5 Day Cleanse to liven up your life!!!

Click here for symptoms of detoxification and what you can do about it.

Juice Fasting

During your cleansing process:

  • Take time to go for a 20 minute walk everyday.
  • Stretch and practice yoga.
  • Meditate
  • Dry Skin Brush
  • Infrared Sauna
  • Enemas!!! 1 or 2 a day depending on your detox symptoms!
  • Take Detox Baths (I love bathing in Sole Water)
  • Get your Beauty Sleep
  • LOVE YOURSELF!!

Please note: During a juice cleanse I generally don’t use tomatoes. Tomatoes are a great detoxifier but  they also upset calcium metabolism and should be avoided in cases of arthritis. Large amounts of tomatoes are weakening for everyone. So I like to enjoy them after a fast as they are easy to digest.

Another side note. I do not juice cucumbers in the winter. Remember that phrase, “As cool as a cucumber”? Well, a cucumber at any given time can be literally 20 degrees cooler than the temperature of the surrounding area. Since it is already cold here in Montana, we don’t need to tax our bodies with extra cold, so I leave cucumber juicing to the heat of the summer!

On this seven day journey, try to free yourself of the past hurts and worries that continue to live with you. Let them float away. Journal or write letters (you don’t have to send them) to give yourself a regular outlet for your emotions, regrets, and worries. Don’t push them aside, harness them and move on as a smarter and lighter person.

13 Health Benefits of Strawberries:

  • Cardiovascular Benefits: No area of strawberry health benefits is better documented than benefits for the cardiovascular system. It’s also hard to imagine any other research result, since our heart and blood vessels need everyday protection from oxidative and inflammatory damage, and the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrient content of strawberries is simply outstanding.
  • Antioxidants: Cardiovascular Benefits: No area of strawberry health benefits is better documented than benefits for the cardiovascular system. It’s also hard to imagine any other research result, since our heart and blood vessels need everyday protection from oxidative and inflammatory damage, and the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrient content of strawberries is simply outstanding. These sweet gems help prevent cell destruction and harmful disease. So grab a pint and get snacking!
  • Anti-Inflammatory: The phenols in strawberries also fight against many inflammatory disorders, such as osteoarthritis, cancer, asthma and atherosclerosis.
  • Anti-Cancer: Since chronic, excessive inflammation and chronic, excessive oxidative stress (lack of antioxidant nutrients and unsupported oxygen metabolism) are often primary factors in the development of cancer, strawberries would definitely be expected to have cancer risk-lowering properties given their outstanding antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrient content. Anti-cancer benefits from strawberries are best documented in the case of breast, cervical, colon, and esophageal cancer. Most of the tumor-inhibiting studies on animals have focused on the phytonutrient content of strawberries.
  • Healthy Eyes: The antioxidant properties in strawberries may also help to prevent cataracts—the clouding over of the eye lens—which can lead to blindness in older age. Our eyes require vitamin C to protect them from exposure to free-radicals from the sun’s harsh UV rays, which can damage the protein in the lens. Vitamin C also plays an important role in strengthening the eye’s cornea and retina.
  • Immune Booster: The amount of antioxidants, phytochemicals and flavonoids that work together synergistically in strawberries helps protect your health and destroy illness-causing germs.
  • Bone Health: Manganese in strawberries is great for the bones, helping in bone building and maintaining proper bone structure. The potassium, vitamin K, and magnesium in strawberries are also important for bone healthYounger Looking Skin: The power of vitamin C in strawberries continues, as it is vital to the production of collagen, which helps to improve skin’s elasticity and resilience. Since we lose collagen as we age, eating foods rich in vitamin C may result in healthier, younger-looking skin. But vitamin C isn’t the only naturally-occuring wrinkle fighter found in strawberries. Researchers at Hallym University in the Republic of Korea concluded that ellagic acid visibly prevented collagen destruction and inflammatory response—two major factors in the development of wrinkles—in human skin cells, after continued exposure to skin-damaging UV-B rays.
  • Fight Bad Cholesterol: According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, heart disease is one of the leading causes of death among Canadian women. Luckily, strawberries also contain powerful heart-health boosters. “Ellagic acid and flavonoids— or phytochemicals—can provide an antioxidant effect that can benefit heart health in various ways,” explains Edwards. “One way includes counteracting the effect of low-density lipoprotein, or LDL—bad cholesterol in the blood—which causes plaque to build up in arteries. A second way is that they provide an anti-inflammatory effect, which is also good for the heart.” Researchers at the Clinical Nutrition and Risk Factor Modification Center in Toronto studied the effect of strawberries on a cholesterol-lowering diet and concluded that adding strawberries to the diet reduced oxidative damage, as well as blood lipids—both of which play a role in heart disease and diabetes.
  • Regulate Blood Pressure: Potassium is yet another heart healthy nutrient, and with 134 mg per serving, strawberries are considered a “medium source,” according to Alberta Health Services. Potassium can help regulate blood pressure and may even help to lower high blood pressure by acting as a buffer against the negative effects of sodium. With their impact on the reduction of LDL, inflammation and high blood pressure, strawberries have earned the title of one of the most heart-healthy fruits you can eat. (And it kind of looks like a heart too!)
  • Promote Prenatal Health: Folate is a B-vitamin recommended for women who are pregnant or trying to conceive, and strawberries are a good source with 21 mcg per serving. Folate is necessary in the early stages of pregnancy to help in the development of the baby’s brain, skull and spinal cord, and the folic acid in strawberries may help to prevent certain birth defects, such as spina bifida. (While I was pregnant with my second child I ate a pound of strawberries everyday!)
  • Improvement of Inflammatory Bowel Problems: Interestingly, even though strawberries contain relatively small amounts of salicylic acid (an anti-inflammatory compound very similar to the acetylsalicylic acid of aspirin), some researchers have suggested that this naturally-occurring anti-inflammatory substance in strawberries might be partly responsible for decreased inflammation in the digestive tract of individuals diagnosed with inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease.
  • Aids in Weight Management: Strawberries contain a compound called nitrate that has positive effects on blood flow and oxygen around the body. Nitrate stops muscles from becoming too tired after exercise. Plus they are low in calories so you can eat a lot of them!

Go on and make your Incredible Strawberry Beet Smoothie to enhance your workout potential!! You are amazing and worth it!

Cherry Orange Soup

Flathead Cherries are sweet and heavenly!
Every year we pick and pit cherries when they are in season. I freeze them, I dry them, we eat them! We are so lucky to live in an area that supplies us with fresh sweet cherries every year!
This is a great soup to make just before a doing a juice cleanse, it is also a good soup to make during a whole food or a raw food cleanse.
Since, Saturday is the start of our 7-day juice fast, I decided to make Cherry Orange Soup!

Cherry Picking

This soup is like having dessert, its so delicious and the kids love it too!
  • Cherry Orange Soup
  • 1 pound sweet cherries, pitted (Flathead cherry’s are the best!)
  • ½ cup black cherry juice
  • ½ cup almond mylk
  • ½ cup coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange peel, top with orange slice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • pinch cinnamon
  • Directions: Blend and Chill. Top with orange slice. It doesn’t get more simple than that!
Cherries are relatives of the plum, and sweet cherries are much more difficult to produce than sour cherries because, not uncommonly, a late spring frost can devastate a crop. Most cherries are produced in Washington, Colorado, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah. But here in the Northwest Montana we are blessed with the Flathead Cherry!
Woo Woo!
cherry picking
Sweet cherries are a warming food that increases vital energy and tone the spleen-pancreas, liver, and kidneys. Also astringent, they remove excess body acids and blood stagnation when eaten regularly, and are therefor therapeutic for gout, paralysis, numbness in the extremities, and rheumatic pain in the lower half of the body.
Sweet cherries reduce vata and kapha and can be used in moderation by pitta.
Cherries are an excellent source of iron and contain some phosphorus, potassium and calcium, as well as vitamin A.
Nutrition info was obtained from The New Whole Foods Encyclopedia, by Rebecca Wood.

Cheers to a beautiful day!

Kiwi Apple Spinach Smoothie

My daughter and I were in the grocery store the other day and she found some organic kiwi. Its so funny that we can get organic kiwi in Montana in the winter but she really wanted some. So we bought some.

Kiwi’s are a fun little green fruit with dramatic black seeds in the center. You can eat the skin but I find its fuzzy texture to be not so appealing. Its like trying to kiss you husband who has stubbles on his face and then really all you get is whisker burn, only with a kiwi you are eating it. So needless to say I like to peel my kiwi.

kiwi

Kiwi actually has amazing health benefits:

  • Kiwi’s Phytonutrients Protect DNA – Fascinating. Anti-oxidant properties of the kiwi fruit have the ability to protect DNA from oxygen-related damage.
  • Premier Anti-Oxidant Protection – An excellent source of vitamin C that helps neutralize the body of free radicals. Free radicals might sound cool, but they actually cause damage to our cells and lead to problems with inflammation and cancer (which is not so radical if you know what I mean). And since vitamin C is so good for the immune system, kiwi may be helpful in preventing recurrent ear infections.
  • Fiber for Blood Sugar Control Plus Cardiovascular and Colon Health – Pretty loaded but the fiber in kiwi has been shown to reduce high cholesterol levels, which in turn may reduce the risk of heart disease and heart attack. Kiwi is helpful in keeping blood sugar levels of diabetic patients under control. As an added bonus, fiber is good for binding and removing toxins from the colon, which is helpful for preventing colon cancer.
  • Protection Against Asthma – Eating vitamin C may be effective in protecting against respiratory symptoms associated with asthma like wheezing.
  • Protection Against Macular Degeneration – I remember my Great Grandmother telling me I need to eat my carrots to keep my eyes in tip top shape, but it looks as though eating kiwi might be even more important than carrots because they are high in anti-oxidant vitamins A, C & E that protect agains vision loss.
  • Cardiovascular Health – Eating kiwi everyday may significantly lower your risk for blood clots and reduce the amount of fats (triglycerides) in your blood, therefore helping to protect cardiovascular health.

Have you had your kiwi today?

Miso Happy!

I love miso from South River Miso Company, It is simply magical and they even have both soy-free and gluten-free varieties that are simply divine!
The 10 scientifically researched benefits of eating miso
  1. Contains all essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. This in turn helps preserve beautiful skin – miso contains linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps your skin stay soft and free of pigments.
  2. Antiviral — Miso is very alkalizing and helps strengthen the immune system helping to combat viral infections.
  3. Restores beneficial probiotics to the intestines.
  4. Aids in digestion and assimilation of other foods in the intestines. This happens by stimulating the secretion of digestive fluids in the stomach.
  5. Helps maintain nutritional balance — full of nutrients beneficial bacteria and enzymes, miso provides protein vitamin B12, vitamin B2, vitamin E, vitamin K, tryptophan, choline, dietary fiber, linoleic acid and lecithin.
  6. Strengthens the quality of blood and lymph fluid.
  7. Reduces risk for breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers.
  8. Protects against radiation due to dipilocolonic acid, an alkaloid that chelates heavy metals and discharges them from the body.
  9. Strengthens the immune system and helps to lower LDL Cholesterol.
  10. Anti-Aging — high in antioxidants that protect against free radicals that cause signs of aging. Miso also helps reduce menopausal complaints because the isoflavones in the miso have been shown to reduce hot flashes.
As you can see, Miso is magical, it has a sweet, earthy, fruity, savory, and salty flavor that can be used in a variety of recipes.
Miso can be used as a dairy substitute in place of milk, butter and salt in creamed soups. Unpasteurized miso used in marinades tenderize meat and vegetables by helping to break down fibers. (I personally like it on asparagus). Use miso in a casserole or soup supplies plenty of high quality protein.
Sweet & Spicy Miso Soup:
  • 1 1/2 cups blessed water
  • 1 Tablespoon Miso (Today I used Garlic Red Pepper from South River Miso)
  • 1 Tablespoon Tahini
  • 1/2 medium onion, sauteed in a teaspoon of Garlic Red Pepper Miso & 1 teaspoon honey
  • Dash of cayenne
Sautee onion and any other veggies you desire. Heat water in pan. Add Miso and Tahini, stir. Add onion and dash of cayenne. Its also delicious with sea vegetables like cut up nori or wakame. Serve!

Many of you may notice that I use cayenne a lot. I do this because my body constitution is generally cold, and cayenne helps increase circulation. It is also known in many cultures to be a potent libido enhancing aid that increases euphoric endorphins in the blood stream. How exciting!
Cayenne is also relatively high in Vitamin A, vitamin B6, Vitamin C, riboflavin, potassium and manganese.
It’s snowing here in Whitefish, Montana today so I decided to make soup to keep me warm and toasty!
Miso Dressing:
  • 1/4 cup miso of your choice (My favorite is South River Miso)
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 1/2 cup high quality olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic (optional)
  • Dash of cayenne to taste (optional)
Blend in blender, serve! It is wonderful tossed in salad, garbanzos or quinoa.
Miso Aioli:

(This is adapted from the New York Times article Umami Dearest by Mark Bittman)

  • 2 Tablespoons Miso of your choice
  • 1 cup Veganaise
Stir miso into veganaise and use within 1 week. Dip yam fries, use on sandwiches, use as a sauce/dip for veggies.
Miso Butterscotch: (This is adapted from the New York Times article Umami Dearest by Mark Bittman)
  • 1/4 cup cashews (soaked)
  • 1/2 cup blessed water
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted (I melt in my dehydrator but it can easily be done on the stove top on low heat)
  • 1/4 cup light miso (I used South River Miso’s Sweet White)
  • 3/4 cup coconut sugar
Blend soaked cashews and blessed water into a creamy mixture. Combine Cream, melted coconut oil, miso and coconut sugar in blender and blend until smooth. If  the sugar is not blending well, it might be helpful to place mixture in a saucepan on stove. Place on low heat and stir until sugar dissolves (probably about 5 or 10 minutes). Add more coconut sugar if needed or even a touch of maple syrup or honey for a truly rich flavor.
This mixture is delicious over poached pears and apples as well as cabbage, eggplant or even over a sorbet.
What is your favorite miso recipe???

Thank you for all of your support!

Love always,
Michelle

Hope you are all well and happy! There’s enough for everyone. If you believe it, if you can see it, if you act from it, it will show up for you. That’s the truth. ~Rev. Michael Beckwith

Greeña Colada

Since I live in Montana, and its cold and snowy outside this time of year, I long for warm beaches and sunny clear skies. But in the mean time I can create my own tropical hideaway in my space by cranking up the heat, practicing yoga and making myself a delicious Greeña Colada!

Greeña Colada:

  • Meat of one coconut (I used the fresh coconut water yesterday for a hydrating drink super drink)
  • 1 banana (or 4 drops of stevia if you want this to be lower glycemic)
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple
  • 1/2 cup cashews (or whatever kind of nut you have on hand – almonds, ect..)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup coconut milk or tea or water
  • 1 Tablespoon Premier Greens Mix
  • 1 teaspoon spirulina
  • 1 drop of vitamin D3 serum

Put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth!

Greeña Colada

Pineapple is a great digestive aid because it helps the body break down and digest proteins more efficiently. The enzyme in pineapple that is so amazing is called Bromelain, it is an excellent anti-inflammatory. If you eat 1/2 cup of pineapple a day it is said to provide pain relief by helping to relieve painful joints common to osteoarthritis. In sports medicine, bromelain is used to reduce inflammation and swelling after an injury.

Pineapple is also known to help dissolve blood clots and is an old folk remedy for morning sickness. So go ahead and drink up your Greeña Colada!

In light,

Michelle
